OMG..... The Righteous Gemstones....

This show is beyond awesome!

I loved the first and (so far) only season and due to COVID there haven't been any new episodes until a couple of weeks ago. Season two is underway.

I DVR'd the first two episodes and just watched them. Danny McBride is a genius!

To anyone who has HBO, I highly recommend this show...

1. There are two Season 2 episodes now. Gotta say, though,

That I'm a bit disappointed in the series. I still plan to watch as I think it's funny, but better writing could have kept it within the realm of comical evangelicism instead of the wild chaos it seems to now be pursuing.

8. Goodheart.....Well.....as they say....

There's no accounting for taste.

What kind of comedies have you enjoyed over the years?

2. I'm having trouble getting into it-- got as far as s1 e2. That is not uncommon for me with new shows

but can you enlighten me in a way that will make me want to stick with it?

7. hlthe2b.....Well....

It may not be your kind of humor.

As I just mentioned in another post, it's the plotlines, the dialogue, and I think it's nuanced (as well as the kind of dark humor which I normally really enjoy).

What are some of your favorite comedies and that'll give me an idea regarding your taste in humor?

3. The reasoning behind Baskin Robbins having 31 flavors is genius.

6. NoMoreRepugs.....,

I missed that reference to Basking Robbins Do you remember what season and episode?

The dialogue is what impresses me (as well as the plot lines). Like last season (2019) when Jesse goes to get his son in Haiti (who's on a mission) and he tells him,"Let the Catholics and the Liberals help these folks get water."

And one of the episodes this season after Jesse (Danny McBride) sends an email that he's impressed with tells his wife, "I'm gonna take an Adderall to celebrate" an incredibly subtle but total reference to tfg and his suspected Adderall habit!

The nuance is what I find so amazing.

4. I started this series last week and like it.

Although the plotlines are a little over the top, what I like is the portrayal of evangelical megachurches as highly lucrative performance businesses. And the interactions of the women with the men in these enterprises.

Although that's nothing new, it provides more details of the behind the scenes that I find entertaining. I will never see them as anything other than that after watching this show.

5. I like it.

It's certainly madcap, zany and disconnected from reality but it's fun. It does put a lot of focus on the importance of "mammon" to these supposed "evangelists."
