That's a couple miles up in the canyon from the exit station.

I couldn't make it down to Gardiner today but I got to the washed out bridge and found the house that fell in, there's pieces of it clinging to every snag along the banks all the way to Livingston.

Lookit:

The washout

The water came up over the bridge, you can see the mud, it looks like it was up to the telephone pole.

About two miles, I guess, down river, from the the washed out bridge there's this at the US89 bridge

And all along the river for many miles

And a few mile up is a rest area and the river crossed the hwy for a good half mile, flooded the field on the far side of the road and left the rest area full of broken timber

Part of the rest area

At the south end of the RA, the slop pile from the parking lot, the pile in the back ground is in the other side of the hwy from the RA. They clear it so S&R helicopters could refuel there as one did while I was there.

So much more to show & tell. I visited friends down the valley and heard their tales, including one who lives in Gardiner but hasn't been home for a few days.

Also there was a steady stream of Gardiner evacuees heading up E. River Rd as far as Emigrant to get around that bridge.

The park is going to be closed for a spell.

That area in and around Yellowstone Park is iconic - especially for east coasters like me who grew up with these guys -

I just got my Toyota FWD running and new tires so I was up for an adventure, the sun was out!

It's 55 miles from the North Gate of YNP to the Interstate at Livingston, but the flooding is all the way through Billings and beyond. I think the Stillwater mine is still stranded as of this morning.

I have more pictures, plan on making an OP now that I'm rested and will be home most of the day. It took time setting up the imgur acct because I read all the rules and terms first.

I've been putting it off for years.
