Tonight Chez trof: Peanut Soup and Cadillac Grilled Cheese sandwiches.

Peanut Soup is my favorite 'sick food'.
I'm not sick, but just had a taste for it.
Miz t. whips it up out of sauteed onions, chicken broth, peanut butter and who knows what else.
All goes into the blender until it's smooth as silk.

Cadillac Grilled Cheese
Grate cheddar, and mozzarella, mix.
Throw in a tablespoon or so of bleu or Gorgonzola.
Mix well.
Spread on bread (fresh baked sourdough tonight) and grill in a lightly buttered skillet.

Haven't had it in years.

12 navel oranges, peeled and sectioned
1 fresh pineapple, peeled, cored, and cut into cubes $
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 cup freshly grated coconut
Garnish: orange rind curls

Toss together fruit and powdered sugar in a large bowl.
Place one-third fruit mixture in a serving bowl. Top with one-third coconut. Repeat layers twice. Cover and chill 2 hours. Garnish, if desired.
Note: Three red grapefruit, peeled and sectioned, may be added to fruit mixture, if desired.

And there was no prepackaged grated coconut back then.
I think granny poked the 'eye holes' out with a hammer and screwdriver and drained the milk.
(I got to drink that as a special treat.)
Then she baked it in the oven for a while.
Busted it open with a hammer and used a knife to cut out the meat.
Grated that and so forth.
They were good cakes.

Granny was a staunch tea-totaler.
Grandpa wasn't.
He kept his 'red medicine' (Bourbon) in a cabinet on the back porch.
When he had the inclination, he'd go back and pour himself a shot and down it.

I never saw much affection on granny's part, but occasionally I'd see him pinch her on the fanny and she'd say: "MARVIN!!".

I can't recall proportions, but my sister-in-law makes it with canned, drained mandarin slices, canned, drained crushed pineapple, miniature marshmallows, sweetened flaked coconut, sour cream and I forget what else. It's still pretty good.

Toast white bread until light brown
add thin sliced Velveeta Cheese
heat in microwave just until cheese melts

If you want to take it up a notch, hit it with a couple of shots of Texas Pete hot sauce.

And if you use a paper plate (or a dirty one allready in the sink) there is not much cleanup to do.

I just re-read the Peanut Soup recipe.

I do not think I have ever had peanuts and onions at the same time.

This is going to require an investigation, but it will have to wait until tomorrow when I can get an onion.

But they have curative powers.
Note: You will not be constipated the next day.
