Doncha hate to wake up and put on the news?

It goes from bad to worse. I know people who refuse to watch because it gets them depressed.. It makes me sad but I have a need to know what's going on.

Maybe when the trees get blossoms and the birds are all back from the south it might be pleasant to wake up....the snow is almost gone.

I stay informed by reading news online, talking with friends. Thoreau said most 'news' is a fire here, a murder there, a catastrophe over there. He found more news in history books & walks at Walden Pond.

I figure the day is already ruined by being at work

My snow is still feet deep. I can see the top of the reflector by my wellhead now. This time last year the ground was bare and I could walk the dogs. Still no shoulder to the road here. Even the slow thaw of last week is gone. The wind was howling all night and a cold front blew in. Single digits. At least they're above zero this time.

Oh, and we got more snow last night.
Not to mention there is a forecast of another few inches on Friday just in time for the first day of Spring 2015.

it gets repetetive:

>politicians (usually Republicans) being assholes
>strife/war/mayhem in the Middle East
>crime, crime and more crime
>celebrity gossip that I couldn't care less about
>and *ENDLESS* chatter about sports

I gave the box back to Time Warner about 10 years ago. I started a home business, took up farming on the side and got 2 happy dogs.

I feel 10x more alive without TV.

Since doing so I'm so much more informed and my friends that still do watch seem like ignoramuses in a way I never noticed years ago.

It's meant to be. Some sources are worse than others. I don't listen because every time I have in the past, I could kick myself afterwards.

I glance through the topics on DU and skip the troubling among them until I've had my coffee and my meds, fed the birds, welcomed the day, flitted through the usual business, etc.

Some days I don't even get to the depressing news at all.

It's a big world. Somebody is always experiencing some great horror.
