(15,882 posts)1. He was talking about South America. Here? As long as you don't take cable tv
away there is little to worry about that the police can't handle.

conditions will dictate. TPP will speed those conditions up ...

(15,882 posts)3. Doubt it. Too many people have been trained to be obedient. You only see that
where they haven't been.
"I saved a thousand slaves. I could have saved a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves". H. Tubman
The people now don't have enough knowledge to understand how they are being used, and there is NOTHING, NO ONE, that is teaching them like they did back in the 50's and 60's.
Today you have these little groups who think that through some magic symbiosis all the people are gonna rise up. They are just fooling themselves.
Go back and look at the efforts of the Industrial Unions (who rejected Socialism, btw) back in the 1865-1930ish period. They were crushed and co-opted by a coalition of Business Unions, the government, and business. That went along for many years until the "Beats" of the 50's started rebelling, mind-altering chemicals became more freely distributed, and most of all kids, lot's of kids, whose parents had decent incomes and housing were free to roam about the country and experiment with new ways of being.
That got crushed when the parents, many Democrats, thinking that Carter was threatening their comparatively easy life chose Reagan, who continued that earlier process of weaning people from the ideas of freedom, but took it in a much harder direction with his racism and bigotry. And when Democrats saw how successful he was, they followed suit, and we have had a procession of Reagan Democrat presidents who care more about business and banks than they do working people.
The result is pretty easily seen - you have over 300 million people in the country, yet movements are only garnering a few tens of thousands here and there, maybe a couple hundred thousand or so if you count the people who toss caution to the wind and send in $10.
That's not nearly enough. It's actually pathetic. It's just enough that they can beat their breasts and slap themselves on the back and publish enough articles to say "See, we ARE doing it", while their effect is nearly nothing, because but they can't the over 50 million people in poverty disappear, invent good-paying jobs that are being out-created by shit jobs by a vast majority (and we are still losing the few good-paying ones we have), put the nearly 10 million families foreclosed on and thrown in the street back in their homes, or make the laughable and barely .02 percent of their profit fine that Jamie Dimon's company is happily paying to avoid jail time while admitting they sold securities under conditions that should have landed them in jail, but won't thanks to the protection of our current administration.
So we hear "It takes time" and all the other piss-poor excuses people use instead of actually accomplishing something. It's too bad hungry kids can't eat those.
The fact is that today the ones who would start the revolution, the 18-31 year old crowd, is living at home. A record 36%, or 21.6 million. You can't expect to foment a revolution with rebels who live at home with mommy and daddy.
There are a few, but not nearly enough, and they aren't gathering these people together and teaching them the history and tactics they need in nearly enough numbers. Which is why the police have such an easy time with them.
TPP will just make us poorer, if the Republicans don't stop it. Because the Democrats aren't likely to. They are p0wned.
I could be mistaken, and will happily admit to it if someone shows me results. But I bet they don't in my and many others lifetimes. And if they can't do that, they aren't doing the job.
