Jesus Christ Superstar

‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ at 50: What Was the Buzz?
The rock opera, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, opened on Broadway on Oct. 12, 1971, to protests, an irate composer — and sold-out shows.

3. Truly Monumental!!!!!

SO influential in SO many ways. So 'shocking' to think that it was 50 years today. WOW!

that's the version I imprinted on and still listen to, but I've seen the movie many times too!

6. I was never really all that fond of it until I got to play it.

What fun for an orchestra and small ensemble geek to be sitting right with the electric guitars. It really made it a different kind of experience than the usual pit orchestras I was used to.

Being that involved in it gave me a better appreciation for it. I have done it twice now with probably a total of 4 rehearsals and 6 performances and love it.
