My tribute to JeffR

How can I write a tribute to JeffR on a day when learning he died hit me like a ton of bricks.
How can I explain that when I first came to the photo group he in essence put his arm around me and showed me the way to not feel inferior and therefore able, and that in such a caring way he made sure I kept hanging around and found a family of folks I would never have had in my life if he had not been the one to credibly invite me in.

JeffR had it all. The knowledge to teach, the kindness to love invisible cyber space strangers, the ability to present proof of knowledge, and the warm embrace to make you feel part of something worthwhile.
When Jeff came in and gave his comments they were never abbreviated or superficial. There was substance of observation, teaching, and personal care, and I remember that in the old days of DUs photo group I did not feel I had the final fill of responses to something I tried to show until JeffR had also seen it and given me his feedback. Only then was it done.

When he left us I was in tears as I realized he meant it when he said he was gone. But he was still out there, and I knew it, and he would have been kind and embracing had I needed him. Now I’m in tears because he is gone for real. I will never forget him, and I will always credit him for helping me to personally and photographically grow. He was credible, caring, and yes, loving.

Thank you JeffR - I will see you on the other side.

[center]The Audacity of Hope by JeffR

JeffR gave me hope - hope that I could improve my photography. His kind and giving nature first came to me in the form of unexpected notes of encouragement just when I needed it.

He gave me acceptance with his DUzy awards. He enjoyed my slightly odd sense of humor which let me know he was just a wee bit odd too. That's a good feeling.

When I was diagnosed with cancer, Jeff was right there praising me for a strength I didn't feel but giving me the hope that I could find it within myself.

I loved Jeff. Hard not to love someone like him. He was a wonderful man and I will miss him greatly.

Thank you for putting this together, and saying with his spectacular photographic lens what we can't easily say with words.
Many of these photographs are etched in my memory, I have to look at them slowly, because my tears get in the way.
This is a monumental and beautiful piece of work you did Solly Mack, and I thank you for having made it happen.

He was one of a kind, and his death leaves me breathless with grief. I cannot even imagine what Nance is experiencing.

His photos are wonderful. Classic, beautiful, elegant, wonderful.

He did a birthday post for me, and I have no idea where I put it, or when it happened. I had forgotten it until one of his photos triggered my memory. I remember feeling so very touched at his kindness and thoughtfulness...

Rest in peace, dear Jeff...we will remember you always.

I remember back to this past February when I finally got up the nerve to participate in the Photo contest, looking at the poll as it was tallying up votes each day, and how disappointed I'd felt when I noticed that Jeff had passed by my ridiculously amateur Winter pic to vote for a particularly striking one (Mira's). Admiring all of you guys' amazing work over the years, his photos were always simply outstanding to me. (I really really wanted his approval, ha!)

As that particular contest was getting under way, I also noticed that Jeff had withdrawn his submission, so now it makes me wonder if somehow he knew that he couldn't be around for the Spring one.

Such a sad sad loss this is.

I never stepped into the photography threads. Now, I realize how much I have missed.

I only knew Jeff thru the spirit shown in his other posts which were exceptional on their own. His photos are treasures, too.

Love to you, Dear Solly.
