wimberley texas flood 2015

central texas got clobbered last night. high winds, extremely heavy rain, the works. the blanco river sw of austin got a foot of rain in a short time. and its been raining for 3 weeks so the ground is saturated.

the water rushed down the blanco and san marcos rivers causing massive damage.
in wimberley ,about 20-25 miles from my home in austin the blanco river rose by over 30 feet in a couple of hours including 9 feet in 15 minutes. it crested at 41.5 feet, flood stage is 13 feet.
its rained in the austin area for 21 straight days. and they are talking about more heavy rain tomorrow with another 1-3 inches in most areas,up to 5 in some.

i drove to wimberley to see the destruction.

a house partially flipped on its side

remains of a house. to the right you can see the bridge over the river. at its peak water was over the top of the bridge

remains of a house

pretty much all thats left is the foundation

huge trees snapped like twigs

this is the road into circle c park in my neighborhood. normally slaughter creek flows under the road, when it has water. its often dry. and when it has water you can usualy walk across it as its only a few inches deep.

not today. the road is under about 5' of water
