Some random stuff from the last month or so. We've received a ton of rain this season. It's raining off and on today, but we're expecting low 70's tomorrow.
I used a Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 for these.

Gotta admit though, the 3rd photo is my favorite. The lines, the layers - a visual feast.

(19,459 posts)We have had a ton of rain! I took #3 while we were stopped on I-5 due to flooding on the highway. It took us three hours to go 12 miles. Traffic backed up for miles and miles. We were headed for Alturas (which is normally a six hour drive for us in the best of conditions) so the setback was especially inconvenient.
Here is the color version, heavy saturation and contrast because I really wanted to emphasize those clouds:

I hope your recovery is progressing well!

Your photos made me grab my camera this afternoon because we had some beautiful clouds late in the day--with the moon up--and I immediately
thought of trying to see what I could get to try converting to B&W.
Going to play around a bit now. Thanks for the motivation!

(19,459 posts)Other times I go straight to b&w adjustments. I also like to use the old NIK Silver Efex Pro at times; although, I am leaning more often on Lightroom's b&w setting, and then adjusting the sensitivity of the color channels, as well as the normal image adjustments.
Your images with clouds have been very nice.

(19,459 posts)I purchased my first Sigma lens. I like the results when it works, but it misses focus too often. They included a USB dock for fine tuning, so I guess that says something. I've never done that before, so it's a bit intimidating.

Submissions are open until midnight tonight Pacific time.
They're all wonderful photos, but either of the three I mentioned would be a terrific addition to the contest.

(19,459 posts)I'd love to enter but right now (and for awhile) we are on the road too much to be able to run the Spring contest, on the slight chance that I should win.

(19,459 posts)My problem over the next few months is simply one of distraction. Day after tomorrow we are heading back down to San Diego. I hope to drive out to Anza-Borrego sometime early next week to get some photos of the flower and cactus bloom, which is expected to be pretty spectacular this year. I don't know if you witnessed it when you lived out here. http://www.desertusa.com/wildflo/ca_abdsp.html
At the end of the month we are headed to Orlando for a week. In May and June we are taking two road trips to visit friends, one to Colorado and the other to Iowa. First week of July we are flying back to Washington, D.C. and then driving to Antietam and Gettysburg.
When does the Winter contest submission period close?

You are going to be traveling! Yes, I remember going out to see the poppies in bloom in the desert years and years ago in the late 70's--with my first husband
and our dog, Cinnamon--and being blown away. Wet years bring gorgeous blooms. Looking forward to your photos of that!

(19,459 posts)Our state is loaded with beautiful scenery. I have a cousin who used to live in Clear Lake, and I was born in Middletown. Been a while since I made the drive over the mountain from Calistoga.
