Nimrod Novik
Former Adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres/Fellow, Israel Policy Forum
For a while it looked like the war in the Middle East might tip into full-scale combat again, after the first major exchange of fire between Israel and Iran since the April ceasefire. President Trump responded with a post: “Israel and Iran must immediately stop ‘shooting.’” Tehran announced that it has suspended military operations against Israel, but warned that strikes will resume if attacks on Lebanon continue. Then, less than an hour after that announcement, Israel attacked villages in southern Lebanon -- this despite Trump's statement that he, not the Prime Minister of Israel, calls the shots. Nimrod Novik is a veteran Israeli negotiator and former senior diplomatic adviser to the late Prime Minister, Shimon Peres. Novik joins the program from Tel Aviv.

Joseph Aoun
President of Lebanon
When Iran announced it was suspending attacks on Israel, it warned they would start up again should Israel continue its strikes on Lebanon. As it turns out, these strikes are, in fact, continuing. Which makes Lebanon the key to determining whether this is about escalation or de-escalation. Two Lebanese army officers and one soldier were killed in a weekend attack by Israel. Israeli Defense Forces say they are investigating the attack, which Beirut called “aggressive and barbaric." President Joseph Aoun said it was “a flagrant violation to Lebanese sovereignty and international law.” Before that incident, Christiane sat down with President Aoun for an exclusive interview. We brought you the first part of their conversation on Friday. The second part of the interview includes the President's direct messages to Israelis, Iranians, and his own Lebanese people.

Jacqueline Maguire
Former Executive Assistant Director, FBI
Several former FBI officials say they were forced out of the Bureau for not upholding President Trump's agenda. Under Director and Trump loyalist Kash Patel, the FBI has seen dozens of employees purged in an alleged effort to root out political bias. One of these is Jacqueline Maguire, who served in the Bureau for 25 years. She joins Michel Martin to explain why she left and why she believes these changes within the FBI are making the U.S. less safe.
