GOP Arizona Lawmakers, AG, Want to Create Unit to Probe Nonexistent Voter Fraud
Arizona's Republican lawmakers and its attorney general want to create a $530,000 "voter fraud unit," despite the fact that voter fraud is pretty much nonexistent in the state.
Contrary to claims of rampant voter fraud that one might have read on the internet or heard from Republicans since the elections in November, the state Attorney General's Office has prosecuted no more than 20 people for the crime in the last decade. The real issues with voting in Arizona stem from efforts by state leaders to suppress voters' access to the ballot, civil rights groups say. Nevertheless, a line in the Republican-proposed budget, which passed the House Appropriations committee Wednesday and heads to the floor for debate on Thursday, calls for more than $500,000 to address voter fraud. increases in Democratic votes within the Republican majority of Hispanic voters? One issue voters peeling away, perhaps?

3. They're shitting their pants
As they watch Arizona, the once white dominated fortress of conservatism, change in real time to a beautiful multi-cultural oasis.
They see an Arizona that is in play politically. They see an Arizona where racist politicians like Joe Arpaio can no longer act with unchecked impunity. They see names like "Smith", "Thompson" and "McDonnell" disappear from mailboxes in their once pasty white neighborhood being replaced by "Gutierrez", "Singh" and "Zhang". They want so badly to be able to hop into a time machine and go back to 1950 when women knew their place, minorities stayed on their side of town, LGBT stayed in the closet and children never questioned their elders. |
