Time to ban fireworks in California

The S.F. Chronicle reported that over 100 July 4th fires in San Francisco alone were caused by illegal fireworks.

In Contra Costa County, firefighters responded to 50 fires between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., a volume so extreme that by 10 p.m., they could only provide one engine for each response.

Ban all sales. Ban nightly displays. Period. The state is a tinderbox. We don't need the pollution.

1. And they scare the bejesus out of house pets!

Every year fireworks turn me into the "Comforter-in-Chief" for the whole week idiots are shooting off the things!

2. My city outlawed them years ago yet it sounds like D day every

July 4th. This year has been the worst, by far.

4. I want a state-wide ban on their sale, distribution, possession and use ...

with very costly penalties and prison time for repeat offenders.

That includes traditional celebrations like Independence Day and New Years.

There were HUNDREDS of fires in the Bay Area yesterday ... a huge drain on first responders and taxpayer money. The potential for death and property loss is enormous.

Anybody want another Camp Fire? Tubbs Fire? Thomas Fire? Caused by fireworks??? I think not.

3. Agreed

Our area has really suffered from fires the last few years but it sounded like a war zone last night

Some sort of firework that was so loud my building shook and one of my cats dove under the bed and stayed there for over an hour.
