Possible Sunshine Breach in the City of Maitland.

The article brings up a good question. I don't think that the Sunshine Laws apply directly to city attorneys, but they can become potential conduits between elected officials, which would be a breach of the Sunshine Law. Going on a tangent from the information given in this article, does anyone know how it would play out for a city attorney if elected officials would confess that a city attorney was in the practice of calling elected officials outside of city meetings to pass on information, including how other elected officials would vote?

Letter raises question of possible violations of 'Sunshine' laws in Maitland

Former Maitland City Council member Linda Frosch said Tuesday that she has given a sworn statement to prosecutors about accusations that top city officials violated Florida's open-government "Sunshine" laws

The questions, she said, involve Mayor Howard Schieferdecker, City Attorney Cliff Shepard and council members Ivan Valdes and Bev Reponen. Schieferdecker and Reponen did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Shepard and Valdes denied any violations of the "Government in the Sunshine" laws.

Shepard said he first heard of the investigation from a reporter Monday and hadn't been contacted by the State Attorney's Office.

"At least in terms of what I did or who I interacted with, there's no 'Sunshine' issue," he said.
