Ernst leads 44 percent to 38 percent in a race that has for months been considered deadlocked. She leads nearly 4-1 with rural voters, and is up double digits with independents.

"Very interesting, and good news not just for Ernst but also for the GOP's chances of taking the U.S. Senate," said national political prognosticator Larry Sabato of "Sabato's Crystal Ball."

Just seven months ago, political analysts considered Braley almost a shoo-in for a seat held for 30 years by liberal Democrat Tom Harkin.

Still, the 6-point deficit isn't insurmountable with 37 days left until the Nov. 4 election, political analysts say. Twelve percent of likely voters remain undecided.

... ...

The Iowa Poll of 546 likely voters in the 2014 general election was conducted Sept. 21-24 by Selzer & Co. of Des Moines and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.2 percentage points.

In June 2013, Braley's image was still an open canvas: 54 percent of likely voters were unfamiliar with him. Just 17 percent had a negative opinion.

... ...

Ernst drew a blank for 87 percent of likely voters last summer. Now, just 11 percent are unsure about her, and 44 percent have a negative view of her, the Iowa Poll shows. Forty-five percent have a favorable impression.

She just kept repeating the same old, same old. Generalities, save SS for seniors and those close, but wouldn't give details of how to do anything.

She comes off as a nice woman. Slick, always smiling. If people don't know her agenda, they may be swayed.

Bruce did a great job of debunking some of the lies being told about him and explaining some of his votes. I hope people are paying attention. We cannot lose this seat to a teabagger.

It seems that Joni Ernst has tried to use her military service as an excuse for missing 57% of the Iowa Senate votes! Only 12 of the votes that you missed were actually related to your National Guard duty. Shame on you Joni Ernst! Seems to make you a phony! Phony Joni was actually AWOL for 57% of the Iowa Senate votes! It is honorable to serve in the United States Military. But you then go and dishonor as well as disrespect all of the fine men and women who have fought and in some cases, gave up their lives for the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! What about the families of our Service Men and Women who have sacrificed too? You have disrespected them too! Do you always use your National Guard duty as an excuse all of the time or is it just some of the time? DON'T BE A PHONY JONI! PLEASE REPOST AND SPREAD THE WORD! WE DO NOT NEED THIS KIND OF REPRESENTATION FOR THE STATE OF IOWA IN THE UNITED STATES SENATE!

I have met Bruce and I have door knocked, made phone calls, donated to his campaigns, both the current campaign and those in the past. In past elections there has been millions of dollars spent trying to defeat Bruce. Why? Because he can't be bought by special interests.

I truly wish that Bruce would go on the attack. The problem is that if he does, people will feel sympathy for Phony Joni!
