Setti Warren trades quips with possible fall foe, Charlie Baker

“I just want to address an elephant in the room here, there is a really important contest coming up and both Gov. Baker and I have a vested interest in it,” Warren told the crowd at the annual Newton-Needham Regional Chamber Spring Business Breakfast, with an obvious comedic build-up.

“I know you’re passionate, I’m passionate. I’m from Newton, you’re from Needham originally,” the Democratic mayor said. “I want to make it clear the Newton North Tigers are going to defeat the Needham Rockets this fall on the football field.”

At the beginning of his half-hour remarks, Baker responded, saying “we never played Newton in sports, did you guys become a Bay State League Community?”
