Tlaib is leading the first congressional delegation to Palestinian Territories in August

U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib is making good on a promise to lead a congressional delegation to the West Bank.

The freshman lawmaker sent out invitations for the event, which is planned from Aug. 17 to Aug. 22. It's designed to give those in Congress a glimpse of the Palestinian side of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Tlaib told Jewish Insider.

“[It will help] people see the human impact on Palestinians, and what an opportunity of value to have a sitting congressmember that has a living grandmother in the Occupied Territories," she said.

The visit will coincide with trips to Israel for freshman legislators that's hosted by the pro-Israel lobbying group, AIPAC. Those trips are planned for the beginning of each legislative session, and are something of a tradition for members of Congress. Tlaib and freshman Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar have all said they won't go on the Israel trip.
