PARIS Federal agents raided a northeast Texas manufacturing plant Tuesday and detained about 160 alleged undocumented immigrant workers as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into a company that makes vehicle trailers.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations office in Dallas said the operation was thought to be one of the largest of its kind nationally in a decade.
The raid was part of a criminal investigation into the Sumner-based company Load Trail for illegally employing foreign workers a rare enforcement move reserved for repeat violators.
Katrina Berger, special agent in charge of ICE's Homeland Security Investigations office in Dallas, said at a Tuesday afternoon news conference that while the primary focus was the criminal investigation, "We can't turn a blind eye to those illegal workers."

(6,137 posts)is the employer getting charged? In some of these cases it was reported that employers didnt get charged because they cooperated with the investigation and provided files for all suspected illegal workers. They use them as slave labor and then throw them away at ice.

(2,405 posts)This company made it a point to hire them, pretty much paying them under the table. They are bigtime GOP supporters. They don't want to pay a livable wage for rather brutal working conditions.
This is an ass backwards, racist hell hole of an area and the mouth breathing knuckle dragging troglodytes are coming out on social media en masse. Some people going as far as trying to justify it biblically. This is a big plate of red meat to the faithful.
But there is a good side to this:
A legal fund has been set up for the migrant workers. There are surprising number of people in this town who are standing up and simply saying "no" to ICE's tactics. A rather surprising town hall was held yesterday!
