Bexar County reports 538 new COVID cases, one new death, as surge continues

Bexar County officials reported 538 new coronavirus cases Sunday — the largest one-day increase since the start of the pandemic — and one new death.

The number of patients in San Antonio-area hospitals and in intensive care units also continued to rise, deepening concern that the hospital system could be overwhelmed.

The newly confirmed cases brought Bexar County’s total to 6,882, the Metropolitan Health District reported.

The county’s death toll from the virus, which began spreading in the community in March, now stands at 97. The latest victim was a Hispanic man in his 50s. Mayor Ron Nirenberg said the man had “no underlying health conditions.”

Back in Mar, Apr and May, it appeared that Bexar County was the best managed of the larger counties...now we have this sudden spike.

Hays County is really a hotspot!!! 1% of Hays has been diagnosed with Covid 19. Hays and Bexar are both "community transmission" areas with not much in terms of congregate settings.

I assume Comal County will be the next hotspot. I can't imagine Comal being skipped over. Too much partying on that I35 corridor.

_______________

Bexar County has regional hospitals, but pretty sure Hays goes to Travis.

Comal goes to Bexar County and I expect Comal, Kendall and Guadalupe to have spikes in the near future.
