Snowy conditions over Cascade passes for Thanksgiving travel, plus a chance for lowland flurries
Slick, icy conditions were already present over the Cascade passes on Monday morning, and it was expected to get worse before the Thanksgiving holiday.
As of Monday morning, traction tires were required over Stevens pass and recommended over Snoqualmie pass. Snow was visible on and next to the roadways. Temperatures were below freezing on both passes, so any wet areas had the potential to be frozen over.
Snow levels were expected to remain around 2,000 feet on Monday and through Monday night, but snow levels had a chance of dropping from 0-1,000 feet on Tuesday night, according to a National Weather Service briefing emailed to reporters Monday morning.
Any lowland snow that may happen was expected to remain under 1 inch and was most likely to occur in the convergence zone area of Snohomish, Island and Skagit counties.
