'Freedom Rodeo' north of Pasco

As the Mid-Columbia woke up Friday morning to a new phase in stay-home orders after more than three months, hundreds of people headed to a Basin City park for a two-day rodeo event.

Pictures shared on Facebook by both organizers and attendees show few people wearing face masks or practicing social distancing to avoid the spread of the coronavirus.

Social media posts show a handful of Washington state and local political candidates also participated, like: Dr. Raul Garcia for governor; nurse practitioner Sarena Sloot for the 4th Congressional District; Dave Petersen for Benton-Franklin Superior Court; Donnie Landsman for Benton County Commission, District 1; Terry Cissne for Franklin County Commission; and Casey Cochrane for Franklin PUD.

1. Hi, Sewa!

I'm NCWA! Near Wenatchee.

Glad to meet ya!

I'm a horseperson. They are an inscrutably right-wing crowd. I love my riding buddies. I think we all know where we stand politically - far apart! It doesn't come up! I"m getting braver, though, as drumpf goes down. Still...best for us to leave politics out! Weird how you can love and enjoy folks on one level, and have contempt for their views on another!

I recall during Obama's presidency going to rodeos where terrible things were said about him over the announcer's mic! Hated it. Maybe I'll stick to native American rodeos - Yakima, Omak, once this thing is over. Though I always feel bad for the critters!

2. Political candidates there are all Repubs

For those who do not know, this event is in E. Washington, majority there are Republicans.

A bit startling to know a Dr. is in the throng.

3. We grew up in that area..The County we live in now has nearly

3 times the population of Benton, Franklin Counties in E. Washington State.
We have less then than half the cases of Covid_19 and almost half the fatalities from the virus.
