Related: About this forumWisconsin: MPS cutting health and dental for part-timers. Tuesday 5:30 p.m. protest.
PLEASE JOIN SEIU Local 150 and the MTEA who will be picketing outside of the MPS Central Administration Building, 5525 W. Vliet, on Tuesday, May 15th.
They will be protesting the elimination of health insurance and dental benefits to their members who work less than 30 hours a week. In the wake of Scott Walkers budget cuts, MPS is proposing a new handbook that basically dismantles the union contracts and workers rights and benefits.
The rally is scheduled for 5:45 pm, but we are asking for folks to be there at 5:30. There will also be a public hearing at 6:30 for folks to express their outrage about these cuts.

(8,461 posts)It's time we realized in Wisconsin that schools are in a tight place. Thanks to Tommy-boy Thompson, their revenue has been reduced since 1992 to the point that most schools are on the brink of financial failure. Thanks to Wanker, they have less shared revenue and have faced more cuts on top of it.
School administrators, under the Walker administration, face two choices: cut services (terminate programs/close schools/consolidate) or cut staff (either in wages/benefits or numbers).
It's a Hobson's Choice. Those who run schools who believe students must come first, know that cutting teacher pay and benefits is not good for students. But depending on the school, that may be seen the lesser evil.
Pitting administration against teachers or neighborhood against neighborhood (when the decision to close schools is up for consideration) is as much a part of the divide and conquer strategy as pitting union against union or non-union against union.
Let's not fall for it. Let's not get distracted by it. Let's have some understanding for the big picture and fix it - RECALL WALKER!
