California Wants to Ban Diesel Semis by 2040
If enacted, the state would rid itself of some of the largest polluters in the state.
By Lawrence Hodge
Yesterday 2:00PM
California is on a roll to have nearly every part of its residents lives be pollution-free. With bans on everything from gas vehicles, to gas-powered yard equipment, the next step is cleaning up the backbone of our supply chain: semitrucks. The LA Times reports state officials are proposing a ban on big rig diesels to further curb Californias emissions.
If enacted, it would be years before anything takes effect. The ban, being pushed by the California Air Resources Board, would require zero-emission medium and heavy-duty trucks in state and local fleets by 2027, and those same vehicles that enter rail and port yards be zero emission by 2035. Its all being done because experts say big rigs are some of the biggest polluters around.

(91,945 posts)1. Whether this even has a chance to succeed, all wil depend who controls Congress and the WH, because
a major tehnology paradigm needs to happe, Not only with the building of the grid, but hydrogen fuel cell and other technologies to make it a reality, and that just isn't going to happen with republicans in control.
I remember in 2000 when GWB went to Detroit and made fun of hybrids and alternative fuel cars of ICE
