German Greens Urge Solar Aid for Iran to End Nuclear Row
By Stefan Nicola on May 25, 2012
Bloomberg News
German Chancellor Angela Merkels government should help Iran expand renewable energy sources to solve the conflict over the nations nuclear program and prevent a war in the region, the opposition Green Party said.
Germany could help Iran with expertise, logistical support and assistance in building production plants for renewables such as solar and wind, Hans-Josef Fell and Omid Nouripour, two Green Party lawmakers, wrote in a study sent to German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle on May 21. The offer should be linked to Iran ending its nuclear activities, they wrote.
Iran could achieve its plan to expand power generation quicker and cheaper, without having to build atomic plants, Fell, one of the inventors of the EEG subsidy system that made Germany the worlds biggest solar energy market, said on his website. Iran Doubles Enriched-Uranium Stockpile, Goes Beyond 20%
Iran increased its output of enriched uranium that world powers are concerned may eventually be used for a nuclear weapon, according to International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors.
Iran almost doubled its stockpile of 20 percent-enriched uranium, to 145 kilograms (320 pounds), from 73.7 kilograms in February, the IAEA said today in a restricted 11-page report seen by Bloomberg News. Iran had tripled its production of the material in the three months to Feb. 24.
IAEA inspectors reported theyd found the presence of particles of 27 percent-enriched uranium at Irans Fordo facility. The particles were a result of technical reasons beyond the operators control, Iran told the Vienna-based agency, which is looking into the matter. Uranium enriched over 20 percent is technically highly-enriched, though most nuclear bombs use the heavy metal purified to 90 percent levels.
The report is the first since IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano returned from Iran on May 21 with commitments from the Islamic republics government to improve cooperation with inspectors. While the Persian Gulf nation insists that its atomic work is peaceful, it has been under an IAEA probe since 2003 over concern it seeks nuclear-weapon capabilities...

The Middle East probably has more sunshine and available land for solar panels than any other region.

It is quite deadly. As even the highly technological Japanese have shown, man always loses control of its dangerous activities. Iran is no different.
For that reason alone, I applaud the US doing whatever it takes to stop not only Iran but everybody from making more nuclear waste.
And we need to work in our own backyard beginning now.
Will we? Will Americans sacrifice anything at all to preserve the environment? Doesn't look like we will, does it, hosts?

It's creative and productive. We're all on one tiny speck in space. We cannot afford to fight.
