Scotland: Renewables achieved 46.4% of gross electricity consumption in 2013

Power from renewables in Scotland 'up by 30%'

Almost half of the power generated in Scotland now comes from renewable sources, according to official figures.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change said renewables achieved 46.4% of gross electricity consumption in 2013 - up from 39.9% in 2012.

It also found the amount of power generated from renewable sources in Scotland in the first half of this year was 30% up on a year ago.

The period saw wind output rise by 20%, while hydro generation climbed by 50%.

This was mostly from favorable weather.

As an example to reinforce the point... California has not become dumber just because the drought has dried up much of their hydro production.

They might well be because of their decision to shut down San Onofre... but that's another discussion.

Also... a high percentage of the UK's renewables generation is in Scotland because that's where the resources are... even though they're the result of national priorities.
