Israel demands PA pay Dawabsheh medical costs

https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/news/middle-east/22645-israel-demands-pa-pay-dawabsheh-medical-costs

The Israeli hospital in which Ahmed Dawabsheh is being treated has demanded the Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Health pay 259,643 shekels ($67,000) to cover the cost of his treatment.

In a Price Tag attack, a group of settlers burned down Ahmed’s family home in the village of Douma, near the city of Nablus, on 31 July.

The four-year-old's parents and one-year-old brother Ali were killed as a result of the blaze.

In a press statement issued yesterday, the ministry said that on 25 October Tel Hashomer Hospital asked the ministry to cover the cost of Ahmed’s treatment; more than a quarter of a million shekels to date.

2. Israel denies billing Palestinians for medical treatment of Duma arson victims
Sat Dec 5, 2015, 03:45 PM
Dec 2015

The coordinator of government activities in the territories (COGAT), IDF Gen. Yoav Mordechai, issued a statement on Thursday denying the Palestinian claims.

Mordechai said that the total cost of the medical treatments given to the Dawabsha family amounted to nearly NIS 2 million, but that Israel never sought reimbursement from the family itself.

The COGAT added that Israel initially offered to cover all of the medical costs, including those accrued in treating Ahmed Dawabsha, but that a lawyer for the family refused the government’s offer.

Mordechai also denied claims that Israel deducted the costs of treating the Dawabshas from the tax revenues transferred to Ramallah every month.

PA, Israel in dispute over Dawabsha family medical bills

The Palestinian Authority Ministry of Health on Thursday said it had been asked to pay the medical bills to treat members of the Dawabsha family after a deadly attack on their home by settlers in July, a claim denied by a senior Israeli official.

The ministry issued a statement claiming that the Sheba Medical Center had demanded that the Palestinian ministry cover the medical bills of four-year-old Ahmad Dawabsha, the only surviving member of an arson attack which killed his 18-month-old baby brother and parents, Saad and Riham.

On Oct. 25, the PA ministry received a bill from the medical center for 259,643 shekels ($67,000) to cover treatment of the Dawabsha family, including payments for a medical mask for Ahmad, which the ministry eventually paid for.
Weeks earlier, on Oct. 6, the PA ministry said it received a bill for 216,754 shekels ($56,454) to pay for the treatment of Riham Dawabsha, who succumbed to her injuries on Sept. 7 after suffering burns to 90 percent of her body.

And now includes the statement from the Israeli side reported in JPost (among other sources).

Which is good because Ma'an often doesn't bother getting an Israeli statement.

living under the same sets of legal sanctions.

Do you think that different population groups in the West Bank should be living under different sets of laws, one of them vastly more draconian than the other?

I'm in favor of parity in law enforcement.
