One was saved this week

A student of mine (college senior) came out to me today...well, not technically came out, but introduced me to his boyfriend, so killed two birds with one stone.

My partner and I teach in the same department, so I like to think we were a positive influence.

This kid comes from a very fundamentalist family (the father formed his own church because no mainline denomination was conservative enough) and I had worried about his prospects for a happy life. Having gone through the process myself, I recognized all the classic symptoms of struggling with one's sexuality.
Anyway, there you go. I think he's going to be okay. He's leaving town right after graduation (to perform professional music theatre. I know, I know.)

Thanks for sharing this!

I recently went through "Save Zone" training at my university. Now I can put a sign on my office door so anyone who needs support knows they can start there!
