Harvey Milk Historical LGBT Poster

I just finished a new piece… a poster (comprised of 140+ names) for the Public Celebration to Honor Harvey Milk, which will take place Nov. 8, 2017 at Harvey Milk Plaza in San Francisco.

The event will dedicate two installations… "Harvey's Halo" is a temporary installation that will be visible for seven nights over two weekends. 15 colored lights, in the colors of the rainbow flag, will beam up vertically from the former BofA building in Harvey Milk Plaza and will be visible all the way down Market Street to the Ferry Building.

This poster was done to promote the event, but I wanted to do something a little more special than a decorative announcement, so I thought I would create Harvey’s face using figures from throughout LGBT history.

As I am, by no means, an expert on the subject, I had to do a lot of reading to compile a representative list. There is, obviously, no way to display the full history in one poster, but I hope I approached a fair representation. It’s an amazing collection of individuals who have played a role (some tragic, some heroic, many trailblazers) in the quest for equality.  (feel free to list others in the comments...)

The names on the artwork on in the list are in no particular order.

I’ll be creating a limited-edition print of this work soon… you can check my twitter ( @ZenPopArt ) or my website ( www.zenpop.com ) for details…

Please feel free to share this far and wide. I’m hoping people will be interested in the names of the people that comprise this art and do some investigating into those you may be unfamiliar with. There are some remarkable stories.

Note: I'm not positive this is the place to post this, if it belongs somewhere else, feel free to let me know. Cheers!
