Phooey. No turkey today.

When I opened the packaging on the fresh turkey, it smelled off. It doesn't outdate until the 31st. I googled "how do I know if my fresh turkey is bad" and yep, it's bad.

What a disappointment!

Fortunately, we are making spanikopita and have dolmas and good bread and various other treats.

A cautionary tale.

But you can't go wrong with spanikopita, yum.

As long as the family's together, that's all that matters, right?

and any other things you might need to get a refund on the loss from wherever it was purchased.

No reason you should take the loss.

4. Bummer... I'm just eating up the tail end of the pre-cooked turkey I routinely buy from Costco

I always buy about 4 pounds, divide it into about four portions and freeze three of them in air-tight glass containers. Never had any go bad and always on hand for a salad, to add to a omelette, or whatever...

Highly recommend these Costco (Kirkland) pre-cooked turkey breasts. Excellent quality.

roast a bone-in breast. I don't make whole ones anymore.

Or our grocer sells breast filets/cutlets. Coat them with mayo and plain bread crumbs to which I add some ground poultry seasoning. They're quick and no muss-no fuss.

Turkey's good for ya and sometimes I 'run chicken into the ground'. 😄 It don't have to be a special day.

and leftover vegie platter and cupcakes from the big Christmas eve spread. We always kept it simple on Christmas...with four kids, we were too exhausted to cook two big feasts in a row.

6. That's right. Bring it back. I know it's a pain in the tuches.

We bring back bad stuff. Meats, produce, what's supposed to be fresh is doubly guaranteed.

Mmm, spanakopita and dolmathes. 😋

Do you have baklava, kourambiedes, melomakarouna, revani, galaktobureko, koulourakia for the sweet? We got two supplies from church Sept. and Nov. They were, by hub and me, demolished in no time. 😆 I'd rather eat Greek pastries than 'food'. 😱 And I do dat. 😁

Merry Christmas the balance of this day! 💝

...and delicious white chocolate peppermint bark ice cream. Oy!!

Plus I spent thirteen hours on Sunday baking to send along with family who were going to Seattle to be with other family. So I was a little done with baking for a couple of days.

I love Greek pastries, too. I haven't made baklava for very long time.

Tomorrow I think I'm just on vegetables, though. I'm sweeted out.

Happy New Year to you!

I'm past my prime baking for family. I do minimal. It's gotta be special.

Mom-in-law and paternal side aunt baked no less than mb 7 or 8 varieties [each] cookies for Christmas. They'd put them out all thru January. Still fresh, but we'd internally groan by then. 😯

Happy, healthy, safe and prosperous New Year for you and yours! 🎉🎆

12. I always make a frozen turkey

I think they are “fresher” than the fresh ones, of course you have to leave enough time to thaw in the fridge. For Thanksgiving, I’ll buy my frozen turkey Saturday and it’s thawed by Thurs. For Christmas, I make a ham.
