Related: About this forumAnyone want turkey dinner but are down to just a few people for Thanksgiving?
No get-togethers for us - so just me and my husband.
Love turkey dinner but looked and the smallest one is 10 lbs. Can't fit a single thing in freezer.
Guess they don't sell like 1/2 turkeys huh. I'd get a turkey breast but we are a dark meat white meat mixed family

(42,770 posts)To really see what they have. But did think those big turkey drumsticks might work.

(17,376 posts)I saw both frozen and fresh on the Kroger website. You never know what they really have, it's frustrating.

(42,770 posts)Can't see my instacart shopper accomplishing that. Guess I could order smallest fresh one and cut it myself. Throw some frostbit stuff out in my freezer and freeze half.

(6,270 posts)Dining alone for the first time in decades and I want the "look" of T-Day dinner!
I'll set the bird on top of a chopped up potato and carrot... stuff it with 1/4 lemon and a garlic clove or two. Tuck the wings, tie the legs. It's gonna be pretty!!

(1,568 posts)We like the rotisserie flavored turkey breast from honeysuckle. I get it for Sunday lunch sometimes for the four of us.

(42,770 posts)In the culinary wasteland of central TX. You just made me realize what's truly lacking here besides good restaurants...it's the down home comfort food. Even like a diner up north can have delicious turkey plates.
Closest thing to it here I guess would be Cracker Barrel?
safeinOhio
(32,532 posts)used Cracker Barrel. Called ahead and didnt have to stand in the long line. Got way more than we could eat.

(29,676 posts)in my group of friends, each cook one thing and then we somehow distribute it to the rest and we each cooked one thing but come up with a whole meal and we can experience sharing. I have to see if they want to do something like that.

(42,770 posts)Act like they have never even heard of covid.
Just got invited to a Christmas party inside someone's house. "More the merrier". "pass this on". Not a single mention of masks or social distancing. Took me a long time to compose a reply. To land between "not wanting to offend anyone" and "think you are ignorant irresponsible morons". Lol

(23,242 posts)and our developmentally disabled neighbor, William, who lives next to our business. We have Willy every thanksgiving and Christmas and have for 30 years...turkeys are just too big for the 4 of us. Im going to grill a big chicken...butterflied...with a lemon black pepper glaze, garlic mashed potatoes and miso green beans. Creme brûlée for dessert. I dont think that I will miss having a turkey at all I surely will not miss having to process all of the leftovers.

(23,242 posts)these last few months. I like the salty and slightly sweet aspect of it and especially like it in salad dressings. Anyhoo, here are two recipes I've tried and they're both good...I'm making the bon appetit one for Thanksgiving.

(14,885 posts)I haven't made a full blown Thanksgiving dinner in years. Planning on chicken (potentially in the IP), and then all of the usual suspects.

(13,821 posts)from him.. Or like the the others have said get the smallest turkey you can find and have it cut up. Cook what you want and freeze the rest. I take the "remains" of turkey dinner and make turkey salad (like chicken salad) Turkey, diced onion/celery/green pepper or what ever veg you like. A couple spoonfuls of mayo and you are set. Or use the bones and left over meat for turkey soup.
Turkey burgers?? taco's? ..... YMMV shoot, now I'm hungry..

(25,750 posts)well before the current surge in corona virus cases, to do Thanksgiving by myself. If I can find a small enough turkey, 10 pounds or less, I'll do a full one. Otherwise, a breast. All the side dishes I want, some wine, and expect to have a lovely time by myself.
I've actually done solo Thanksgivings in the past, for various reasons, so this is simply another one of them.

(13,159 posts)So, I'll make a turkey and gravy , my wife will make stuffing and sweet potato tempura and we'll drop that off at their house.
Daughter will make some pie and green bean casserole, which we'll pick up from the back porch.
Potatoes, cranberries, nuts and liquor will be self supplied. Zoom will be on and football will be watched.
It's the best plan we could come up with, hope it doesn't suck.
My in laws are holding a regular TG day feast, because FREEDUMB.
I hate that they fell for the lies, we used to be really friendly.
Of course they hate that my wife and I "Drank the koolaid" - so we don't speak

(10,073 posts)We started going together Thanksgiving of 1970, so we always celebrate with friends and a big turkey. This year it's just the two of us, but we're still having turkey, a much, much smaller one this year. We ordered a heritage bird, as they are smaller, and are cleaning out the freezer dinner by dinner because there will still be leftovers. I expect we'll be eating leftover turkey for quite a while, but that's what turkeys are for (and stock - looking forward to making a big pot of turkey stock with the carcass).
Now, how well does pumpkin pie freeze?
Laura PourMeADrink

(110,913 posts)My last job gave us turkeys every year and that's what I did with mine. I left the breast mostly on the bone and rolled the skin around the bottom to keep stuffing in place. Legs and thighs were put into the crock pot with green chile and tomatillos for carnitas to fill taco shells or make into tortilla pie.Bones, skin, and the bits left over on them were turkey soup.
The other thing you can consider is a capon, a desexed rooster that grows to fill the poultry gap for people who have four to dinner but can't justify a whole turkey because they don't want to eat the left overs for three months. They're big enough and taste better than turkey, which needs a lot of help or it tastes like cardboard.

(2,672 posts)Wasn't going to cook, but daughter was given a turkey, I told her I'd cook it, but no way we could eat it all and don't have enough room in my freezer. My husband suggested to give all the excess food to our home-bound neighbors and friends.
Nothing I love more than cooking for other people. I keep meal containers in my pantry because I take food to my neighbors and relatives on occasion, so containers won't be problem. Will have my daughter here to help. Will Try to make up the meal packets so each household will get enough for 2 meals which will include some pie.

(42,770 posts)Be the most loving and giving Thanksgiving yet! The irony of it all.
I like to cook for people too. Are you a Sam's member? They have great tin foil pans with matching tin foil covers.
I like to make soup for people. Guess I need to just spring for Mason jars
