Or maybe its called Advantage II. Anyway I use it religiously each month. Yet about two weeks ago I found a flea on the cat and today the vet said she saw a flea. What gives?

(4,429 posts)IME, you have to switch to different medicines because they get used to the treatment (well, I guess the fleas do!)
In an emergency, I had to go get - what was it - capstar? We had to do that twice!
Depending on where you live, I'd try a bath and a different medicine, and if that didn't work, I'd go to the vet for capstar. (Then a different medicine)

(3,571 posts)We had been using it for 8 years in the summertime and never had a problem. Then last year, it seemed to just not work at all.
We changed to an even more expensive chewable (had to get it at the vets) and it took care of the problem right away.
Makes me think that there is fraud involved with Advantage.

Had to switch to an oral flea med

(2,396 posts)She said it doesn't work since fleas are getting used to all the poisons.
Her office switched to Bravecto (a new product) but for our hypersensitive cat, that doesn't even work. Nothing does and it's all so expensive. (One flea bite turns into a oozy scab.)
We just gave up and now our cat is strictly an inside cat, even though he never left the back deck and strip of lawn.

(2,849 posts)I live in South Florida and I have 6 cats and 2 large dogs. I also spray my yard every other month or so. I get the stuff that you put on the end of your garden hose. I don't remember the name, but I read the fine print on the back of the bottle and make sure it kills fleas and ticks. It's probably been over a decade since we've seen any fleas. Another brand you might want to check out is called Comfortis. I think they make a version for cats as well as dogs. Good luck!

(20,854 posts)They killed my beloved cat in 2016.
It was the worst thing I ever saw!
As for the cost, we don't want to go there! My gawd!
Just say no!
Get the fleas OUT of your house and keep the cats indoors.
Let them learn to LOVE the flea comb.
I have 3 cats ages 2-5 and all are flea free!
It is absolutely possible with a lot of work
