dog food recalls.

i just want to interject this into the debate. once upon a time, i worked for a contract food packager. we made drink mixes like hawaiian punch, mixing a premade mix with sugar and putting it in cans. we worked for most of the big companies. it seems to me that the recent dog food recall probably comes out of such a company. so many little brands.
i will tell you that, although we wanted to keep our contracts, we really did not have any real pride in our products. the place ran on illegal workers who barely understood their jobs and who turned over about once a month. nothing got done sanitation-wise unless a client complained. rejected product was worked back in slowly.
our profit margins were razor thin.

i feel downright politically incorrect when i buy my purina one sometimes, but i have yet to see it on a recall list. i do not know if it is contract packed. i discussed this brand with my vet, and his response was that purina does a ton of research, and has been a respected brand from the start.
maybe they are just better at pr. i dunno. just a little 2¢.
