Related: About this forumA special day. Me, the dogs, great weather, our "Back 40."
We just got a brand new barn on the Back 40. I got just the basic building done by a contractor. I'm doing all the fit out myself. We're not sure what we'll actually do with it. Use it as a barn, a shop, or what we've talked about, live there permanently.
Anyway, that's getting way ahead of myself. Right now it is big and empty. I started building a loft and today was a perfect day to play hookey and go work on it.
As I was putting my tools into the truck, the big dogs were hanging around, making it clear that they wanted a ride. So I told Sparkly they were with me, and off we went.
Me and the two big dogs. Apart from chasing a few deer they were very content to just stay close and watch. As is my habit, there was no cell phone, so no pictures, but man it is pleasant. Peaceful.
Me and the dogs. What special friends they are. Unconditional.
The Border Collie appointed herself as lookout. She went from door to window to door, staying a few minutes at each vantage point. Surveying. Intense.
The GSD was more than happy to just lay her big self down and watch. When I moved, she moved. The only thing that broke her laziness was the occasional "bwuf" from Momma.
Days like this are rare.

(34,095 posts)Nothing like no cell phone, no one else talking to you, nice weather and a new barn to fit with your best buds the dogs.
Back 40? Acres behind your house or land you own elsewhere? I hope, if you wish, that you get to move out there. I have been so supremely happy since we moved to the farm.
OK, I have not posted much here so what is GSD? Dog yes but?
Make those days more often, you deserve it, we all do.

(69,994 posts)and yeah, sounds like a lot of my days at the farm, when it is just the big dogs.
the terriers are rarely in that sort of mood. but the bullies? all about it.
doc is taking up that whole 'laying in the doorway' thing. very comforting. till you trip over him.

Glad you had such a lovely day with the dogs and that they dogs enjoyed it too whether doing security for you or supervising you. They always seem to have to appoint themselves a job even though it sure doesn't seem like much work they're doing.

(13,460 posts)I love spending time with my dog. I like taking her out somewhere to let her run, or do some training then come home in the air conditioning and us crash for a nap together.
Dog time is priceless, so serene.
