suggest that there is a Siamese or Abyssinian somewhere in his past.

Abyssinians like to play catch, like a dog. They will retrieve tossed items and bring them back to you. They can also be possessive with their toys. And very funny. They do silly, clownish things just for the fun of it. Not very talkative, but they have a strong meow when they do use it.

Siamese like to be with their people and will follow them around. I had a half Siamese once who used to walk beside me as if there was an invisible leash on him. He also tended to be a bit of a show off who liked to strike various poses as if to say, "See how cute I am?" Clever about solving problems and getting into cupboards and drawers, opening doors, etc. Very talkative, with a distinctive meow.

The mix is very much like last year's litter. It does seem that there is always one that stands out, a bit. Last year it was Madoc, a short haired bi color with 3 solid and very fluffy siblings.

This year it's three tuxie types and then Arthur the Tabby. Two are VERY fluffy, with Freya and Arthur falling between that and Madoc's sleek.

ordinary non pedigreed cats, the coloring, coat pattern, and length of hair can be anything and will not look like any particular breed. But, the face shape, ears, overall length, height of back legs, body frame, and some behavior traits of the specific breed can still be passed on.

The cat that I had, who was half Siamese, was a stray that we got at the Humane Society. He looked like a generic tabby stray. His markings, in fact, were very similar to Arthur's - brown and black stripes, white belly and socks, white on his neck. In the middle of the white on his neck there was a single stripe which made people think at first glance that it was a scratch from a cat fight. He had very dramatic looking black stripes coming out from each eye, like extended eyeliner. We named him Alex.

He was just 6 weeks old when he chose us, literally. I had my heart set on an orange tabby in the same cage, but whenever I reached into the cage for the orange one, Alex crawled onto my arm. The 3rd time, he went all the way up my arm and into the hood of my jacket. Who could resist such determination?

He had a clean health record from the H.S. vet, so he was 8 weeks old before his first vet office visit to start vaccinations.

Alex yelped when the vet stuck a thermometer in his rump. The vet was startled and lifted Alex up to check out his body features - height, legs, ears, length. He told us that Alex was half Siamese. The first clue, which startled the vet, was Alex's very distinctive Siamese yelp over the thermometer.

As he grew, his ears dominated his head. His eyes had a Siamese tilt. His face was triangular. He was an incredible leaper. We had an efficiency apartment with a floor to ceiling bookcase that divided the "bedroom" from the living room. Alex used to climb to the top shelf in the mornings and dive bomb my husband in bed to get him up. Also as he grew, Siamese behavior traits became recognizable.

In a litter of kittens with a mix of a specific breed and generic cats, some kittens will have mostly generic traits and some will have more of the specific breed traits. That's especially true if there are a couple generations of mixing. Example: There are several breeds that were created from mixing Siamese with other breeds and with domestic shorthairs (generic cats). If one of those breeds mates with a domestic shorthair stray, the domestic shorthair (generic) genes will dominate some of the kittens, but the genes of one or more in the litter will be a throwback to the Siamese ancestor or to the ancestor whose breed was created through a Siamese mix.

Madoc's face shape and eyes look to me more similar to Arthur's than to the other kittens in Madoc's and Arthur's litters. Bruiser looks like he has an ancestral pedigree somewhere in his background. Might be a mix derived from Siamese, or might be a different breed. Abyssinians are sometimes mixed with other breeds or with domestic shorthairs to get certain color results. Also, any pedigreed cat can get loose and produce a mixed litter.

one male when they are in heat, the kittens in a litter can have different fathers.
