This is an opinion piece by the founder of OKCupid in the Wall Street Journal about how mass social media sites reveal human behaviors. An interesting topic, and this was an aside.
"When Websites Peek into Private Lives
Using personal data for research has vast benefits, says OkCupid founder Christian Rudder"

My bolding for emphasis.
The possibilities of this research are as varied as the human condition, and it is uniquely able to uncover hidden narratives because the data reveal what we're doing, not merely what we're saying or hoping we do. Facebook in particular, because of its world-wide popularity, allows its scientists to understand groups of people other research can't reach. I've seen myself how messaging patterns on OkCupid betray a deep bias against our black userseven among our coastal, upscale, ostensibly progressive audience. At Google, they've found that Americans still search for racist jokes millions of times a year. That is something worth knowing about ourselves.

(6,267 posts)Very sorry to read this. I am a white female and I am afraid that there are probably a huge number of these same people searching for violent porn....always trying to put someone down it seems, very pathetic and sad and it leads to such a treacherous environment.....for all of us who are not in their club.
