What NFL Players Are Saying About “League of Denial”

Sorry if this is old news... but there are some priceless (as well as scary) reactions to the recent PBS documentary on the NFL and concussions. I found noteworthy...

Tom Brady: “I don’t think about it at all. I’m not overly concerned.”

Clearly getting the most out of his U-M education...

Aaron Rodgers: “I will not be watching … I know the risk that I take when I step on the field. I’m risking future health and future mental health. I understand that, future physical health.”

I know the risk? But I refuse to watch something that reveals the risk? OK...

Bill Belichick: “First of all, I’m not really familiar with whatever it is you’re referring to, whatever this thing is. But it doesn’t make any difference whether there is or isn’t one going on..."

Way to pretend to care about the welfare of your players... clearly on the same wavelength as Brady!

They all know they're risking themselves. If you watch something like this you start playing scared and if you play scared you get hurt. These guys are paid hefty sums to risk their bodies, they know it's the trade off.

The league spent years distorting the scientific record and suppressing findings they found inconvenient. They know they can get "their bell rung" and surely have some notion that this may have consequences down the road, but that is not the same as being fully informed on what the research is showing about the full array of risks.
