Fox Sports said Thursday night that it did not agree with Undisputed co-host Skip Baylesss commentary about Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescotts public admission of depression. Baylesss comments, which included the suggestion that Prescotts discussion of his depression was a sign of weakness, drew widespread criticism on Thursday and Friday.
At FOX Sports, we are proud of Dak Prescott for publicly revealing his struggle with depression and mental health, the network said in a statement. No matter the cause of the struggles, FOX Sports believes Dak showed tremendous courage which is evident in both his leadership on the Dallas Cowboys and in his character off the field. We do not agree with Skip Bayless opinion on Undisputed this morning. We have addressed the significance of this matter with Skip and how his insensitive comments were received by people internally at Fox Sports and our audience.
Bayless addressed the criticism of his comments during Fridays Undisputed, saying his comments were misconstrued and that he only meant that Prescott should have sought help when he first started feeling depressed during the novel coronavirus pandemic and not waited.
Earlier this week in an interview with Graham Bensinger, Prescott opened up about the depression and anxiety he fell into because of the suicide of his older brother, Jace, in April and because of the pandemic.

Bayless has been a bit of an asshole for as long as I remember.

(14,784 posts)It actually just doubles down on his ignorance and callousness. It highlights his error again.
He's always been a dick. He was on the Bay Area sports beat for a while a couple decades ago and had shitty hot-takes then also.

(1,813 posts)He is arrogant ass. It is not first or last time he stepped in it. He is probably thrilled at the extra attention.
Not a Cowboy fan but good for Prescott talking about his depression. Maybe it will help men accept the fact depression is real and they arent being a p@$$y.

(29,322 posts)I have depression myself among other things.
I'm used to people blaming bad behavior on mental illness though. The stigmas are there.
