36th run for the America's Cup started today in NZ.

NZ, UK, Italy and US start with a round robin to pick the best boat to challenge. US now in the lead with two wins. These boats go 45 knots on foils that can retract or deploy as needed. Take a look!

1. This is the Christmas Cup, and boy howdy, these boats are wicked cool!

The results of this series establish the paring for the The Prada Cup which determines which team competes against New Zealand for the actual America's Cup. Simply stated: To win the America's Cup, one must first win the Prada Cup

The Prada Cup – the Challenger Selection Series for the 36th America's Cup - will take place in Auckland (NZ) in January-February 2021. The round robin series will determine which team will compete against the Defender, Emirates New Zealand in the America's Cup Match from 6-21 March 2021.

At least, that the way I understand it.

2. Yes, the Prada cup first to determine the Challenger.

The winner of this series is assured a position in the finals of this contest to determine the challenger, the other two will have to race in the semi-finals to determine who competes with the above winner in the finals. Lots of racing but that will hopefully give the sailors a chance to figure out how keep those boats going in the right direction!

75 feet long, huge 87' tall rig, yet weighing less than 2/3's of a 70's era Pearson 40!

Foils are showing up everywhere, wind surfers, kite sailors and I recently saw a small dingy up on a foil. I to have yet to try one and may never, as I'm 73 and my hands are full sailing my C&C 24.
