House finch has left one egg so far... UPDATE!

Last edited Fri Apr 17, 2015, 11:37 AM - Edit history (1)

built a nest in a wreath on my front door! We moved the wreath off the door and to the side hoping we won't keep moving it every time we open the door. I looked and there's one egg for now.

-------------------------------------

The babies are born! 4 total I think. I saw one egg still there on last check and thought it might not hatch. But now there's a snuggly pile of babies. I did put pillows under the nest and so far, so good.

from building a nest in a bad spot. At this time of year, they try to nest close to the doors, but they will not be happy when summer gets here and I am opening those doors all the time. I had to keep knocking the nests down before they even get started several times to encourage them to move. I can't blame them, the porch light under the awning really is a great spot.

saw the start of the nest and told myself to put the wreath away. But QUICKLY it was a whole beautiful nest so I didn't have the heart to get rid of it.

moving the wreath out of the way. I do feel hard-hearted when I keep knocking down their efforts, but it would be a nightmare for them when the weather would break....and I can't move the light or the door.

aren't afraid of us or our cat. They hunt for bugs year around and I love their "song" and how loud it is.

them a bit. The female in the small house was in the nest with her head hanging out and she took no notice of us.
