Birders

(1,576 posts)Down the road is the town fowl pond. We often take a stroll to see how things are there. Lately, its coots, mallards and a couple of geese.
But at our house here in middle England, it's mostly garden birds for us.
We have a huge community of tits (Blue, long-tail, great, marsh), nuthatch, goldfinch, tree creeper, hedge sparrow, wren, wood pigeon, collar dove...
All of these feed in our 10 meter square garden.
Unfortunately, they leave detritus that the local rats love.
I've been fighting a battle this season with these local rats (Bastages!!!)
But considering we live in Moreton-IN-MARSH

(1,576 posts)I blame it all on the ridiculous amount of food we keep plowing into the feeders.
This month I believe is the annual "bird count".
We will sit in our living room (for one hour) looking out to the garden and count the various species that show up.
We will then report that to the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds).
Fortunately, it will be conducted with a carefully curated drinks menu.
Unfortunately, the drinks menu might affect the bird count.
It will all work out in the end,

(130,156 posts)Lucky for me, I spend much of my time sitting in my living room looking out on the river! Not a huge variety, and rarely can count the numbers of ducks (and geese.) HOPING I'll see swans on the creek soon.
