I can understand how people can convince themselves to believe all manner of absurd things.

But how some seem to be able to convince themselves that the non-consensual impregnation of a woman is not rape is beyond my comprehension.

The lengths they will go, the contorting they will perform, the rationalizing....What. The. Fuck?

But since it's a central tenet of their faith, somehow, magically, it's no longer rape!

And the excuses, the rationalizing, the deflecting..... We hear this same stuff IRL from those on the other side of this issue, such as the "Legitimate Rape" comment made by a politician....

At least that's how I'm seeing it. I know it's a tough question. I know that people are going to be defensive, but fuck, rape is rape.

It is possible that Mary was a very religious person who would do anything her God asked her. I'm sure there are fundies today that would leap at the chance to carry God's baby. I think the important thing to realize is that this was a tale written by men. They needed a vessel to deliver their God, so they chose a woman and made her compliant. This was the point of your OP and didn't need to be distracted by that single incident.
