(5,811 posts)There has been a lot of nastiness toward Clinton on this site and I in no way feel hampered by it. I'm still gonna vote for HRC. I love the fact people are VOTING!. I hope we can get people to do the same thing in 2018 in even greater numbers. VOTING is our voice and we shouldn't squander it no matter who you vote for.
whatchamacallit
(15,558 posts)maybe you could tell fellow HRC supporters.

(5,811 posts)People have a right to speak their truth even when we disagree. But it shouldn't stop you from voting.

(1,446 posts)All are Hillary voters...at least 30 of us at last count. (Even the millennials!)

(39,171 posts)just don't think it will change things that much. That is the unfortunate aspect of voting so late in the process.

(39,171 posts)there are many reasons why California voters should vote besides the presidential primary. The unfortunate thing with being the second to the last state to vote is that sometimes it will have no impact on who wins and who loses.

(37,428 posts)She won a hell of a lot, and in doing won a Cabinet seat.
The convention is about so much more than a magic number of delegates.
hack89
(39,171 posts)Bernie needs to do the same. I have no problem with him campaigning if he sticks to the issues, attacks Trump and does not mention Clinton. If he plans to disrupt the convention then he is toast and wins nothing.

(15,558 posts)I want my vote to count for something. If my candidate unnecessarily acquiesces to demands to drop out before the California primary, my vote is a meaningless token. But thanks for your magnanimity.
hack89
(39,171 posts)unfortunately as a consequence of California voting so late your vote, like it or not, will be irrelevant to the outcome.

(15,558 posts)"tough shit, disenfranchisement is built into the system" doesn't really cut it for us.
hack89
(39,171 posts)not every election season is a horse race to the very last state. This one is over before California gets to vote. It is not disenfranchisement by any sense of the word.
whatchamacallit
(15,558 posts)As I said, 'built in'.

(5,811 posts)I'm more concerned about the down ticket races. I want a DEM House and Senate because it is Congress' job to make and fund law. And we know the crazy the Republicans want to do with law.

(36,437 posts)I'm especially eager to see Senator Sanders lose California, so that his supporters can see he is really not the preferred candidate of the party.
No excuses. Let everyone vote.
MineralMan
(146,254 posts)The California primary will be held, and both names will be on your ballot. You can, and should, vote for the one you prefer. Nobody has suggested that any future primaries be cancelled. Nobody.
whatchamacallit
(15,558 posts)MineralMan
(146,254 posts)that's on you. Why would you not vote in your state's primary? That makes no sense at all.
Now, some might skip a primary if their choice was no longer running, but there's no reason to do that. Both candidates will appear on all of the remaining ballots. Go and vote. Do it for yourself.
My point is that nobody is cancelling any primaries. It's your choice whether to vote or not, not anyone else's choice. You decide.
whatchamacallit
(15,558 posts)why should I vote in the primary?
MineralMan
(146,254 posts)Sanders will probably not do something like "suspend" his campaign. He's no longer realistically in the race, but he still has a platform. Vote to demonstrate your support for that platform. Or don't. I can't decide for you, and have no desire to try. Do as you think best.

(20,606 posts)It's ridiculous that CA gets to be pretty much dead last when it comes to the primaries.

This is especially true coming from our so called "fourth estate," aka; "guardians" or "watchdogs" of democracy.
Thanks for the thread, whatchamacallit.

(6,393 posts)or just a couple of primary days overall, I do believe we need to tighten up the time period overall. Six months may have made sense decades ago between the first and last, but it's too drawn out and really reduces the final primary's influence.

Maru Kitteh
(28,313 posts)with their state's Democratic party to move their primary up the calendar. Beyond that, I don't know if this is your first election, but that's how the dang cookie crumbles sometimes. Literally nobody is telling you that you can't vote, even if your candidate were to drop out. His name will still be on the ballot.
Go cast your vote. Whether he has remained technically in the race or not will matter little because it will still come down to you casting a vote to advocate for his inclusion in the platform. That's a good thing and you should feel good about it. So vote!
