2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWho here likes both Clinton and Sanders?
I might be in a small minority after reading many posts but I am hoping I am not totally alone in this.
Clinton was my Senator here in NY and I worked for both of her Senate campaigns. I have met her and have admired her for decades.
Sanders I have watched on TV since at least 2008. A favorite on MSNBC I used to love his appearances and when he wanted Obama to stand up to the republicans I always cheered. I respect him and agree with him on many policy issues.
Things have become so heated around here I just was wondering if there were others who admired and respected both of them. I am prepared to work to get either of them elected.

(31,484 posts)I have supported Hillary from the time she announced her candidacy and still do, but it's not because I don't like Bernie.

(93,878 posts)...and I've previously said that I like Bernie and have no issue with his policies; I just don't think he can get elected to enact them.

(260 posts)I will say this, like you, I really began knowing Sen. Sanders since 2008 and really liked what he had to say. In the past, I liked Hillary. However, I lost some respect for her during the 2008 campaign and I still harbor some disgust. I voted for Bernie. However, I do respect her accomplishments, especially as a woman and at times I do find myself agreeing with some of what she says here lately. With that being said, I can vote for either.

Some of Sanders' supporters make it tough, at times.

(54,770 posts)are adamantly opposed to single payer, and considering current Congress. Myopic people don't get that if Public Option is as good as we think, people will gravitate to it quickly.

I prefer Bernie and think he has a better chance to beat Trump. In fact, I think Hillary could lose to Trump.
But I don't hate Hillary like some here do. I just think Bernie is our better choice.

(26,060 posts)I don't let what anonymous posters on the internet sway my vote. Shame of those who do. Now if whoever has the lower number of pledged delegates doesn't drop out after the last primary, THEN my feelings WILL change because it would prove that candidate doesn't give a shit about the party or beating the cons in November. So I guess we'll see.

(15,805 posts)They both have their particular strengths and weakness. There are many things I like about Hillary, her experience and knowledge are hard to beat, and her sheer endurance in spite of decades of relentless attacks from the GOP, and now coming from Bernie's crowd on the left. Sometimes I have to work at looking past the shenanigans of Sander's fan base to see the man, but on his own, he's still an appealing candidate.

Neither was my first pick as our nominee. (My first pick also has aspects that I like less. Because they're all human and none of them align with me 100% on all issues. Shocker, right?)
I will happily vote for either as the nominee, even if the earth turns inside out and the Republicans nominate someone not-insane (instead of Trump or any of the clowns we've seen so far).

(1,558 posts)I checked him out in Feb 2015 where I found a counterpunch article about the F35 so I may have been overboard for him if that article hadn't made me cautious and put me on the fence. I am from Wisconsin and usually vote early, but I didn't vote because I was not sure. I was watching news to get an insight into the election when Sanders campaign first floated the idea of overturning the pledge delegates with the SD, after first being so against the SD. At the same time he was in my state lecturing Walker about how he would never think of disenfranchising people just to win the vote. And then i heard about Nevada pledged delegates being turned. Being from Wisconsin here I take the issue very seriosly. I dont know if I could vote for him although I loathe Trump.
