2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI Watched a WWI Documentary Recently
It was called "WWI in Color". Its quite good, the entire series is on youtube right now if anyone is interested. Anyway, in late 1918, the Central Powers were in ruins. Austria-Hungry and the Ottoman Empires had all but collapsed and Germany was in turmoil heading towards a civil war. The Allies had pushed the German military out of France and Belgium and were knocking on the door of the German border. In the final 100 days, nearly 1,000,000 German troops were killed, captured, or wounded. The writing on the way was clear and if the Germans refused to surrender then the Allies would have rushed into Germany and crushed the remaining German forces. However, a few high level generals in the German military believed that they could press on. They believed they could successfully push the allies back hundreds of miles, capture Paris, and win the war. This was a desperate, even delusional position to take. The German military was in shambles and the U.S. was pouring troops into the conflict, easily overwhelming what was left of the central powers. It would have been suicidal to keep fighting and any hopes of victory were beyond non-existent.
This mentality reminds me of the Sanders people. Despite the fact that the war between Sanders and Clinton is only a few days away from being over, they want to keep fighting. They want to pour more resources into a battle that they can't possibly win and do untold damage that will accomplish nothing. It is a position that is based on desperation and not accepting the inevitable, with little to no hope of actual success. Why keep fighting a war that you cannot possibly win? Why put everyone, including yourselves, through the misery of a protracted battle that will have the same outcome no matter what?

(458 posts)from the Star Wars films...remember how the rebels never gave up, despite being outgunned. They win in the end.

(3,072 posts)Did 55% of people support the empire and only 42% support the rebels? I don't remember relatively few people in the star wars universe actually wanting the rebels to take over.

(3,072 posts)And if you want to bring the axis in, that means Sanders supporters will become like the Nazis. Not where I intended this discussion to go and I'm not sure you want that comparison either.

(2,679 posts)Now its called American Hero's Channel (AHC). That was an awesome series! AHC now airs a WW1 program call Apocalypse WW1. The program you are talking about is much better. AHC also does a WW2 in color which is way better then World at War,

(2,679 posts)Especially being that we are 100 years displaced from WW1, it would be a good refresher course on what not to repeat.

(3,072 posts)They have a ton of different subjects but they do have 3 history series. They only touch on WWI and WWII but overall its a good watch if you want a broad overview of world history and U.S. history.

(25,816 posts)Are Bernie supporters going to be killed, captured or wounded?
Your analogy is quite confusing. Is the FBI the Allies?

(45,851 posts)And at the moment only the FBI knows what's in their hand which they seem to be playing quite close to the chest.
I for one an in favor of waiting until all the cards are shown to cash out of the game. Al Gore never recovered from first conceding the 2000 election to Bush and then retracting the concession.
It's easy to take these frantic "Bernie must drop out" threads as panic that the indictment fairy may tuck something under Hillary's pillow soon and Bernie will be the presumptive nominee.
