Obama loyalists plot Trump resistance

Alumni of the Obama White House spent days mourning Trump's win. Now they're ready to fight.

Source: Politico, by Sarah Wheaton

It wasn’t supposed to be this way. There’d be a wave election to sweep away Trump’s divisive rhetoric and Republican obstruction all at once. The people who have spent the last decade sweating it out for Obama – in many cases most of their adult lives – could finally lead normal lives, his legacy safely in the hands of the first woman president.

The talks are all early, but a few broad themes have emerged. One is protecting the people most targeted by Trump’s policies and rhetoric. How to block a deportation force, for example? Could Vice President Joe Biden leads an anti-domestic violence campaign? Then there are the Obama policies that are most at-risk: the health law, his climate regulation. Finally, with Democratic ranks decimated not only at the federal level, but in statehouses as well, there’s a significant new emphasis on supporting alumni who are considering running for office.

Over the past 10 years, Obama alumni have spread throughout the government, the advocacy world, and influential parts of the private sector, including at Google and Facebook. That means there’s a lot diverse talent to harness.

“The president is committed to staying in touch with this group with some regularity in the months and years ahead,” Obama’s former campaign manager David Plouffe told OFA members on the call. In fact, Plouffe added, after the disastrous election results, “We’ll have to do it a little more frequently.”

Obama is still a powerful force for the generation that grew up working for him.

“He’s our Jesus Christ. We’re crazy,” said Jaff, not without self-awareness. “It’s 10 years later, and we’re still obsessed.”

contact with the disenfranchised period. Feed back tells the real story, that and we did a lousy job of feet on the ground campaign. Volunteerism only goes so far, needed more paid Canvassers. Been there and done my best.

I'm a Democrat in Alabama. Before that, Oklahoma. Before that, Texas.

I've been disenfranchised by the Electoral College my entire life!

Did the Trump have a ground game? It wasn't reported. Did the RNC? Nothing reported.

We could have and should have done more is always the lament of the losers.

Now - what are we going to do about it?

you can kiss your ass good bye. Comcast and Fox dictated the daily news cycle. While that was happening,Bannon and Gang used their network of Wingers to promote false News Stories via Facebook and Twitter.

As a Volunteer at our local Dem office,I was hearing this message form the paid Staffers, where is our response to these false stories.

Said this from the get go when Hillary out did Bernie in the primaries, this is Hillary's to lose and Manhatten did not listen to the people in the field. Been doing this since 1958 and was taken back by the lack of fast response to the Republican garbage been thrown out to the press on a minute by minute basis. During Mr.Obama's runs, there was a response team in place to knock false or miss leading stories down.

When you lose the News Cycles, you are toast,Trump did something or said something to his pals at Breitbart or Fox and that controlled dominated the day.

keep this in mind. The fundamentals of what Obama contributed to the last 8 years hasn't changed, but turnout in those states was down, and that is what the DNC need to work on from now until 2018 and beyond.
