Boehner Invokes ‘Plan B,’ Dismissing Obama’s Offer

Crafty Repubs are now down to splitting the difference... no rationale, just putting something out there as a "well, it's better than saying fuck you" offer. ... sortof like saying, "well, if you'll take this we'll only sink the ship halfway."

WASHINGTON — Speaker John A. Boehner, pivoting to hardball tactics just days before a deadline in the fiscal impasse, promised to bring a bill to the House floor this week that would raise tax rates only on income over $1 million and leave in place across-the-board spending cuts to military and domestic programs that Republicans have warned could have dire consequences.

The move came less than 24 hours after President Obama offered a more comprehensive deal that would raise tax rates on income over $400,000, raise $1.2 trillion in new revenue and cut $930 billion in spending over 10 years. Mr. Boehner declared that unbalanced and insufficient.

“What we’ve offered meets the definition of a balanced approach, but the president is not there yet,” Mr. Boehner said Tuesday.

The speaker made it clear he would continue negotiating with the president, and some House Republicans emerged from a closed-door meeting with Mr. Boehner confident that a deal was now in reach.

They went from ZERO tax rate increase, to a permanent 39.5% on everything over $388,000? Boehner could get his caucus to vote on that? Come on.

If the leaks came from House or Senate Dems I would think it was to mobilize people to protest the chained CPI. But it didn't...it came straight from the White House, after they got wind of Plan B. I am hoping that is because they don't expect the GOP to accept it and want to make them look unreasonable.

If the president expect the GOP to support this or to push him further toward their side, I don't see why he would leak this offer, because then he looks weak if they push him further.

Hopefully at the very least it means this was the president's last and final offer. Otherwise I don't see why he would leak it.

If theres a last second deal that screws us, then you were wrong.

If theres a last second deal that is better than we are hearing about, then you were right.

And if there's no deal, then we wont be able to be sure until next year. That seems likely. Then, we will have another round of this.

he has known all along they will NOT agree to ANYTHING he suggests.

They've done it since the day he took office, this is NOT 9th dimesional chess.

This is just business as usual.

I expect he wants to go over the cliff.

I think this was the plan the whole time. They were (are) never going to agree on anything. Apparently America is just a game to Republicans.

for whoever will hope to receive the least blame for going over the fiscal cliff. And we will go over that cliff, for better or worse.
