Senate Confirms Srinivasan To Powerful D.C. Circuit Court
The Senate voted unanimously on Thursday to confirm President Obamas nominee to the second most powerful court in the country. The 97-0 vote to make Sri Srinivasan a judge on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals gives the White House an important victory.
Srinivasan, who has been principal deputy U.S. solicitor general, is already rumored to be a future Supreme Court justice. His overwhelming support from across the political and legal spectrum make him a more attractive candidate.
Srinivasan, who will be the first ever Indian-American appellate court judge, fills a seat vacated by now-Chief Justice John Roberts in 2005. Current Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and Ruth Bader Ginsburg also served on the D.C. Circuit court. No judge has been confirmed to it since 2006 due to Democratic and Republican filibusters. Even after Srinivasans confirmation, three of 11 active seats remain vacant.
Srinivasan cleared the Judiciary Committee on a unanimous 18-0 vote. He won endorsements from liberal and conservative legal stars including Paul Clement and Ted Olson. The White House did considerable heavy lifting to ensure his confirmation.

I'm still waiting to have my grave walking party when Scalia knocks off.

It doesn't look like politics played much of part in this case. Sri Srinivasan seems to be a well qualified candidate and apolitical, or is at least viewed that way by the Senate.

This is a great thing.
