Romney is Gonna Get It

by BooMan
Mon May 28th, 2012 at 07:36:35 PM EST

John Helleman:

Though the Obamans certainly hit John McCain hard four years ago—running more negative ads than any campaign in history—what they intend to do to Romney is more savage. They will pummel him for being a vulture-vampire capitalist at Bain Capital. They will pound him for being a miserable failure as the governor of Massachusetts. They will mash him for being a water-carrier for Paul Ryan’s Social Darwinist fiscal program. They will maul him for being a combination of Jerry Falwell, Joe Arpaio, and John Galt on a range of issues that strike deep chords with the Obama coalition. “We’re gonna say, ‘Let’s be clear what he would do as president,’?” Plouffe explains. “Potentially abortion will be criminalized. Women will be denied contraceptive services. He’s far right on immigration. He supports efforts to amend the Constitution to ban gay marriage.”

The Obama effort at disqualifying Romney will go beyond painting him as excessively conservative, however. It will aim to cast him as an avatar of revanchism. “He’s the fifties, he is retro, he is backward, and we are forward—that’s the basic construct,” says a top Obama strategist. “If you’re a woman, you’re Hispanic, you’re young, or you’ve gotten left out, you look at Romney and say, ‘This fucking guy is gonna take us back to the way it always was, and guess what? I’ve never been part of that.’?”

Not to mention he thinks corporations are people, doesn't worry about poor people cuz they have a safety net, and keeps his money in Swiss and Cayman Island bank accounts. Not to mention that he does weird and vaguely sociopathic things like holding down a gay kid and cutting his hair or strapping his dog to the roof of his car for a 12-hour drive on the interstate. Not to mention that he has flip-flop-flipped on almost every issue under the sun and actually tried to "take a lot of credit" for the auto bailout he opposed to anyone who would listen.

When it comes to Mitt Romney, there is so much negative to say that there almost isn't enough time between now and the election to say it all.
I mean, this is a guy who employed undocumented Mexicans for years to do his landscaping and then decided his immigration policy would be to make their lives so miserable that they'd just leave on their own. Is that classy, or what?

With republican moderates all but extinct, they speak with a loud singular voice when they say:

"If your gay, I'm not on your side, vote for the other guy".
"If you're poor, pull yourself up because we refuse to help you"
"If you're of a minority race, we'll make you a second class citizen"
"If you belong to a union, you are our mortal enemy to the end"
"If you're pro-choice, we'll take that way from you any way we can"
"If your kid attends a public school, we'll work to defund it"

Then all I hear is: "This election will be very close".
Why is that?

"If you're in the military, we will start new wars in the middle east and refuse to pay for them"
"If you're a veteran, we will cut your benefits and medical care"
"If you're are not yet retired, we will cut your Social Security and medicare to give tax cuts to the wealthy"

The election is close because 1, there are a lot of people who hate the idea of a black man running the country, 2, things have gotten only a little better during the last 4 years, 3, people have short memories, and 4, many people are brainwashed by Faux and Rush.

No point in making all of these excellent points old news and yawn-worthy too long before the election... Romney needs to be crushed, not to be allowed to just fade away. That will have a beneficial effect on congressional races, too.

and Obama may want to hold his ammunition until after the conventions. But there are anti-Obama ads running every day here in FL. These ads don't mention Mittens at all, they just lam-blast Obama about the economy, national debt and gas prices. With no Obama ads to counter these negative ads, things are already unbalanced here. Obama, should run some ads down here in FL, not necessarily Bain ads, but something anything to attack mittens.

it is a rule in politics -- define your opponent before your opponent can define himself.

Romney is now defined as "out of touch, casual liar, vulture capitalist, draft dodger hawk, miserable high school bully, empty corporate suit" but most of that was done by the never-ending GOP primary.

seems to be the main GOP *strategy* for 2012. I don't necessarily believe, however, it's going to drive people to the polls enough to vote for somebody like Romney because most people don't have the same blinding rage and hatred towards President Obama that they do. They may not agree with all of his policies but that seems to be mainly because they think most of his policies don't go far enough, not that they go too far and I don't sense an overwhelming desire for the Republican's preferred economic policies and I think that that will become clearer as the two parties hold their conventions and, particularly, when the debates start and people can see what each side is pitching and I sincerely believe that they will prefer President Obama's policies over R.MONEY's.

Robocalls to tell you that the ' Gay-lovin forren(sic) born Kenyan' in the White House will ; take away your guns, take away your money, and turn your children into homosexuals. Really, they will try to appeal to any prejudice they can.
They do it because it works.
I thought Gore and Kerry were shoo-ins.

Gore also thought he was a shoo-in, and his campaign showed it. Bear in mind, too, that he actually won 2000; it was the Bush dynasty that hijacked it out from under him. As for Kerry, for all his good qualities, he was ultimately (in the eyes of the swing states, anyway) an unrelatable, overprivileged Massachusetts stiff and a flip-flopper.

Sound familiar?

And Dubya somehow still managed to convey the image of a "guy you'd want to have a beer with" to enough useful idiots. Romney has none of this going for him. Don't get me wrong, there's still a very real possibility that he can take this one, and I put nothing past the GOP these days, especially in the wake of the debacle in Wisconsin. But I still think they called this one a loss back in January, and are focusing more on 2016 at this point.

42. Obama/Romney Debate
Fri Jun 8, 2012, 11:18 AM
Jun 2012

Romney:

I could make a merger that devours
Hobnobbing with world powers
Golfing in Bahrain
But to get elected I'll  turn the tables
Where would you buy your staples
If I hadn't worked at Bain

Who'd bust unions with efficiency
Reducing cost and deficiency
For a capital gain
Would I look like a robber baron
In this Armani suit I'm wearin'
If I hadn't worked at Bain

I'm looking forward to the general
When my old politics become ephemeral.
And stop causin' so much pain
but I'll still keep you guessin' with
Which entitlements I'd be messin' with
If I hadn't worked at Bain

Obama:

I  see you have some apprehension
Totally lacking comprehension
Of other people's pain
Tho your Daddy was a liberal
You're a diff'rant individual
Karl Rove controls your brain

I know  what you're athinkin'
They'll never allow another Lincoln
Your party's not the same
Up not down would be sensational
But his pull is gravitational
Karl Rove controls your brain

But no matter whose water I'm afetchin'
It's not me who keeps goose-steppin'
when others are in pain
If schadenfreude makes you merry
Go ahead and stay a dingleberry
Karl Rove controls your brain
