Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumThe Meme Of Bernie Pulling Hillary To The Left And Her Changing Her Positions Based On This....
to me is problematic. Bernie can do all the pulling of Hillary to the left that he can rummage up. Hillary can assume all of Bernie's positions so she can secure the nomination. However, in the end, which candidate is more apt to actually put these positions into action?
Hillary strikes me as to do and say whatever it takes to secure the nomination. I'm troubled that if ultimately she happens to be elected as President - this turns out to be 'bait and switch'.
I believe that if we Progressives want to move the country back to the left and regain the ground we lost to the Reagan's and Bush's - that we have to have the person that - is and has been talking - the same game all his political career - and that is Bernie.
I'm confident that Bernie will do all he can as President to achieve his platform for The People.
I'm not confident that Hillary will do the same and I don't trust that she will.
That is the reason that I'm backing Bernie all the way. He is the only candidate running for President from both Parties that I really trust to do as he says.
What say you?

(3,425 posts)It is not unheard of to learn that political candidates will say what they think will get them elected and then shed their disguise once they are safely in office.

(25,170 posts)I don't know if this happens through phone banking; knocking on doors; social media; or Bernie or any of his surrogates actually hitting on this and putting it out there.

(36,392 posts)They have nebulous and spurious meme's ("An air of competence", "Most qualified candidate", "We need a woman president now", "None of Sanders' ideas are realistic" , and no amount of facts will get them to change their minds.

(25,170 posts)on spurious meme you missed is "It's her turn" - that's the one that really gets my goat.
I don't know if we will be able to change her supporters minds. There are, however, a lot of people that are still on the fence; there are Independents that still haven't made up their minds and there are Repugs out there that are afraid of their own candidates. My point is that there are a chunk of voters out there that need to here more about Bernie. We might as well pull them into the momentum.

(23,664 posts)But IMO you are spot on. And it seems like, in the event she would actually be elected, they would not care if she reneged on every campaign promise and reverted to her inner republican.
I think they'd find a way to justify it if she bombed Iran, put on a flight suit with a sock stuffed into the crotch and pranced around the deck of an aircraft carrier shrieking "Mission Accomplished".

(3,795 posts)some of us could then blame her advisors for her failure to go against multinational corporations' and the financial elites interests.
Of course, some of us would rightly still blame Hillary, but some would give Hillary the benefit of the doubt and blame her advisors and Cabinet choices.
We have one candidate that can really change the direction of the Democratic Party, and we have one candidate that offers us THE CHANCE at changing directions in this country. One. It's the one not taking money from corporate interests.

(3,111 posts)This has been proven time and time again, and anyone who ignores this fact is simply ignoring reality for this or that reason.
If we would like a Progressive President, and I know I am hungry for one and it seems many others are also, we need to get behind Bernie and do everything we can.
Frankly and luckily, his message is resonating with so many people, it does my heart proud and really makes me encouraged.

(6,123 posts)...is that Hillary is a centrist. Bernie is progressive.
My personal beliefs align with Bernie and I feel that Bernie would try to do just what he's been trying to do for years. He has my support and vote.

(47,953 posts)I think having a high name recognition is a double edged sword. Yes, people know her name and who she is, but they also know she is a politician to the core who is bought by the rich. I know of no-one personally who likes and admires her. They might vote for her if given no other choice but a repub, but that doesn't mean they will if given a good alternative. And the more she flip flops and copies, the more this image of a typical politician gets engrained.
