Poll: Biden would beat every other Democratic candidate in a one-on-one race

Former vice president Joe Biden’s status as the frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 is highlighted in a new poll, which suggests he is not only the current favorite in the crowded field of candidates, but that he would remain the favorite even if he were running against a single Democratic opponent.

The poll (conducted by Republican firm Echelon Insights) asked 1,005 Democrats and independents who favor Democrats’ policies about their preferred 2020 candidates. The poll found 38 percent of respondents would vote for Biden if the primary were to be held right now. This is well in line with other polls; as Vox’s Dylan Scott reported, most polls show around 40 percent of voters saying they are backing the former vice president.

The Echelon poll found support for Bernie Sanders to be at 16 percent, and that four candidates: Pete Buttigieg, Elizabeth Warren, Beto O’Rourke, and Kamala Harris were each supported by 5 percent of respondents. No other candidate was at more than 2 percent, with 16 percent undecided.

This poll went a step further, by testing Biden in head-to-head matchups against four other Democratic candidates — and showed him coming out ahead in each trial, although in each of the hypothetical contests, the majority of respondents weren’t “definitely” for either candidate.

2. Echelon Insights is a self-selecting online Republican-run poll that is an outlier

That article itself is sloppy as hell, as it frames 1005 as the number of respondents. It was NOT. EI cherry-pick sampled only 447. Also, I have seen people try to play appeal to authority games and say it is backed or run by Havard, and then they post a help wanted advert that was posted on Harvard for internships as evidence.

That same poll shows a massive discrepancy with most other polls when it comes to the total support of Harris and Warren, giving them a combined total of less than half the total support of a majority of other national polls (a COMBINED 10%, with Harris being portrayed as LOSING % atm, which is utterly refuted by almost every other national and state poll). It literally shows NO candidates getting above 5% other than Biden and Bernie, which is ridiculous.

Colour me a big sceptic.

3. Because he was Obama's President and we haven't had a single debate yet.

The primary is NOT going to be held right now, so that question is irrelevant. Let's see who he beats in the debate before we decide who he's going to beat in the primaries. Right now he's winning based on name recognition.

5. Biden's lead is holding because he is hardly opening his mouth or campaigning

And not many people are paying as close attention yet. People in the early primary states expect to be won over and for their votes to be earned. Right now Biden is really taking things for granted. His events show only 8 total events or appearances in the last several months. He hasn't done any national news shows or appearances that I am aware of either. He appears to purposely be avoiding being seen much because of his tendency to open his mouth and stick his foot into it. I also suspect the change in debate set up is being done to benefit Biden. If he gets put with only people with no chance of being nominated and all the other potential nominees are together then I will be highly suspicious. I think if they are going to do a random selection they should do it live on TV like they pick lottery numbers so we all know it wasn't rigged to benefit anyone.
