I don't understand why the two young B & B are going after Biden because he is "so nineties"

(or something like that).

He was Obama V.P. in the 21st Century and whatever we admire about Obama he was part of this administration.

You cannot go back to the end of the Obama administration and think that that’s good enough,” Beto announced Thursday on Morning Joe, taking an impassioned swipe at both Joe Biden’s candidacy and Obama’s legacy. “

https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2019/06/beto-orourke-attacks-joe-biden

South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, delivered a wide-ranging foreign policy and national security speech with a simple point: the United States would be hopelessly stuck in the past with either the president or the former vice president at the helm.

23. I would not settle for that. And that is why they are disagreeing with Biden
Mon Jun 17, 2019, 01:26 AM
Jun 2019

The reason I would not settle is that there was a political and moral rot back then. I think many of us were not aware of how bad it really was, it was hidden beneath the surface, we were too complacent in Obama's competent hands, but it was there waiting and growing, like a cancer before you have any symptoms. Trump is the explosion of pain you get when the cancer gets big enough. It hurts, but now we know we were sick when we felt well.

When you have cancer, immediate treatment is required. Surgery and harsh drugs. Cancer can move fast, so we must move faster. Times of change move fast, they create their own urgency. Lincoln wanted to slowly end slavery, but instead he had Civil War before he even took office. Roosevelt had a national crisis, he moved immediately to start solving it. We are at such a time. Different kind of crisis, but a still a crisis.

That is what B and B are saying. You are saying you would settle for going back to the Obama years. They are saying that's like ignoring the real disease, and just taking pain killers instead. It's not an attack on Obama or Biden to say there were problems they could not solve. It's simply an important place where they disagree with Biden. You have to decide who is right. That's what elections are all about.

I don't believe that is what I said!

1. We need to fix all the damage that the tRump administration has done to our nation and world.
(back to Obama years)
2. Next step is to take this nation forward to the future and join the rest of the civilized world.

I do believe that moving to step 2 before step 1 is completed is missing some important restoration before tackling the rest of the Democratic platform.

As for the rest of your post, respectfully, you are talking to someone who has been involved in activism since 1969. I think I have a pretty good handle on what happened, where we are today, and where we need to go in the future. I may not be around to see step 2 come to fruition, but I would like to see step 1 completed which would restore the hard work I and others of my generation have done to get us to the Obama years.

That is what I was responding to and that is what I would not settle for.

Thank you for your activism. I have my own experiences in life. Also, a good understanding of history. I think I have a good handle on where we came from and where we are today too. We are at a point today that is unlike anything in your lifetime or mine. You have to go farther back in time or to other countries to find good parallels. Things can get much worse than this very fast. Often, the outcomes are not good.

Mon Jun 17, 2019, 01:26 AM
Jun 2019

The past--any past--is too far; we have a new set of issues and perspectives and Biden doesn't appear to be keeping up. And how much of his popularity with "women and minorities" is based on nostalgia plus a lack of knowledge of other candidates?

Personally I think his support is soft. Supporters of his rivals collectively out-number his own, despite his likeability and universal name recognition. He "declared" at about 30% approval, climbed to 42% over the next two weeks, and has been dropping for the last 5, back to about 32%. Even here he is only polling at 14, which is below where he started. Each of the top 5 candidates is polling ahead of tRump so that isn't an issue. We'll see won't we? We haven't even had a single debate.

He was in pretty good shape mentally and physically until he hit his upper seventies. However, the last eight or nine years of his life his decline became evident. Part of the blame was due to Parkinson's disease, but the traffic accident he had when he was 79 was the visible sign of his decline.

I've had my own physical decline over the last seven years. I've also noted my cognitive decline during that time even though I try to exercise my brain with various activities and for a 54 year old I'm in pretty good shape. Unfortunately, I don't multitask as well as I did previously.

RBG is a wonder and a badass. At any age.

As for the 'good ole days'? The Obama/Biden years only ended in 2016. The Trumpster's horror show may seem to have elongated time. But come on, we're not talking a half-century here; we're talking 2+ years ago.

We need to restore what we had before Trump and his wrecking crew got to work, shore up our institutions, obviously put into law what was previously expected as normal behavior, repair our relationships abroad, and then get on with problem solving for the future.

I don't see this line of attack from O'Rourke or Buttigieg as being terribly effective. They're better off talking about what they want to do, rather than throwing hollow accusations at Biden.
